Health and Wellness Peer Educators

MEGHAN BELLAMY

Class of '18

Hello All! I'm Meghan and an English Major with a Communications Minor. As the team's passionate writer, I developed the Words of Wellness Blog and curated it during the '17-'18 academic school year. I have always had a passion for health (physical and mental), and I love being a peer educator because it allows me to learn about and advocate for a sector of health that grows increasingly more important.
My favorite self care tip is to practice meditation and/or yoga. You don't have to have any kind of skill (I sure don't), but practicing breathing, mindfulness, and discipline are an amazing way to change your perspective and refocus your positive energy. I also recommend journaling as a way to purge your mind of any clutter and start to approach clarity.

LOUISA VAN AKKEREN

Class of '18

My name is Louisa Van Akkeren and I'm an environmental studies major with a minor in communication and history. I'm very involved on campus, and helping people is something that I've always been passionate about. From subjects ranging from sexual to mental health, being a wellness peer educator has shown me just how much our campus cares about the wellbeing of its students.
My favorite self care tip is that sometimes you need to take some time to clear your head and de-stress. A great way to do this is to go out into nature and just relax. Even just sitting in the stone circle in shooting star savannah always makes me feel way better, and can really lower your stress levels.

LINDSAY COHEN

Class of '19

My name is Lindsay and I will be graduating in Spring 2019! Currently I am studying abroad in Mongolia, then going directly to the loop in Fall 2018. I have ridden horses since I was about 7 years old, and love to do random adventurous things like aerial silks and trapeze. I became a peer educator in hopes to bring awareness to topics that students want to see more on campus. Whenever it is a beautiful day outside you might find me lounging in my hammock on middle or south quad!

KANOE MONTANO

Class of '18

Kanoe Montaño hopes to pursue Student Affairs in Higher Education in a graduate degree program. She is majoring in Psychology and Studio Art and works as a Resident Assistant and Wellness Peer Educator on campus. She is an active presence on campus and is constantly making efforts to educate herself in and out of the classroom.  She has been involved in Latinos Unidos, National Residence Hall Honorary, WMXM Radio, Water Polo, LFC Theater Department, Garrick Players, and helped create an event at Relay for Life. She hopes to see mental health stigma constantly combatted.  She hopes to see marginalized identities embraced and empowered on campuses and she hopes to become a better ally.

AGNES PASTWA

Class of '18

My name is Agnieszka Pastwa and I’m a Neuroscience major. I absolutely adore the field I have chosen to go into. I chose to become a Wellness Peer Educator because I feel very passionately about mental health. Talking about mental health is one of the most important things we can do together as a society. My favorite self-care tip consists of finding time to cook myself a meal. Cooking is very relaxing for me and helps me with any stress I may be feeling at the time
